  [原创]how to "use" english!!!

Some people just dont know why after 10 years of learning theystill cant speak like a 10 year old native speaker. The onlyreason or difference is that while you are "learning" english,a native kid is "using" english.A book just wont get you anywhere, but without a good book, you cant go far either. So here is my idea, use the language first, read when there is something you dont understand, butbefore you go through this reading process, do ask a nativefor help first.

I spent 3 years on this and it definitely worked. I hope newbies could do like i did, but one thing for sure, you will never be as good at this as you wanna be, and this feeling will either get you motivated or bored, if you can manage well, you will see the big picture. Here is a website where you can meet a lot of native people, there is a forum which can be accessed for free if you register, you can chat with native people on that forum in real time, its much better than having a teacher right? Well, at least i think so.

You know, i avoid the chance to talk with non native speakers, because i might learn from them, and they might become some kind of habbit to me, which tells you not to use english with your own kind, cause if you do it will not do you any good.Mistakes can happen, but make sure they dont come out all the time, cause if they do your brain will register them and it will be hard for you to correct later on.

Dont you ever think going abroad to learn english is much better than doing it in your own country and dont forget who you are, because if you forget who you really are, no one else would remember that for you, and if you think going abroad can learn the real thing, to some point you are right, but for most of you, its a big mistake, who told you native speakers can accept you as their friend when you still need to learn english? If you cant talk fluently with them they will get bored.Dont argue, if a native spearker says "hey whats up", you just need to accept the fact that they dont use "hello how are you",just register that piece in your mind and use it the next time you see someone you know, "habbitize" yourself. "ima tell you like dis," grammar rules dont work very well in real conversations if you see what i mean.

"is" and "are", you dont know how to use them? Maybe a native speaker doesnt know that either but they do know how to use them in a "right" kind of way. "who you think you is?" Does this one sound right to you? cause it does sound right for a native. whatever a native says, its right, if you follow, you will become more like them.

Alright, im sick of this long ass sh*t, enough for you toget my point...(or maybe i need to write more?)

Objections

It’s a common sense for a salesman that he is supposed to handle all sorts of objections well. The way he handles objections from his customers matters to the success of his career life. The question is: what kind of objections would a salesman meet when promoting products to his customers.

The answer varies from different kinds of the products a salesman sells. For example: a salesman who promotes cosmetics will hear something like “sorry, I’ve got them; I don’t need them; I’m not interested in your products; I only prefer to buy certain brands of cosmetics…” “It’s like you are bumping into a solid wall.” A salesman told me his feelings on these objections.

The toughest objection I’ve ever met in my sales career life is the straightforward question “Just tell me the price of your products”. I represented FX, which sold/is still selling the most expensive products in OA industry. Therefore, if I just told my customers the prices of FX products directly, I would barely stand a chance to get the order. Because the prices of other brands were/are much lower than mine. That’s why some salesmen representing other brands just showed their cheap-cheap-style to their customers, and they would, sometimes, easily get their orders. I’d defeated many of them, and of course, been defeated by them too. It’s natural in sales life. I’d got used to the sweet or bitter results already.

The person who gives objections to the salesman also counts. You may still have a chance to win if the objections are given by a normal clerk of a company, unless he/she is one of the relatives or lover of the big boss.

FX told us to “call high”, which meant you should always look for the decision makers. Otherwise, you would waste lots of time unnecessarily on selling a product. Talking directly to the boss of a company will shorten the process for both buying and selling. A street-smart salesman knows well about how and when to find those bosses. And they make tremendous deals.

Finally I shall mention how to deal with objections here. It’s pretty simple, though. Always ask or guess out what your customers need according to your products. Asking professional and useful questions to them is the smart choice for a salesman. Of course, you need at least have a chance to sit down and start your topics with your customers. That’s the priority of all the selling skills.

除了 am 和 not , may 和 not 不能合写之外,其余的一般都可以和 not 合写。例如:

  ( 1 ) He is not ( isn't ) a man to give things up easily.

( 2 ) He can not ( cannot, can't ) speak Chinese as well as Tom.

( 3 ) You did not ( didn't ) know how worried I was about you at that time.

注: had better do sth, would rather do sth, would like to do sth. 和 be about to do sth. 的否定形式分别是 had better not do sth, would rather not do sth, would like not to do sth. 和 be about not to do sth ; used to 的否定形式是 usedn't to 或 didn't use to 。例如:

( 4 ) You'd better not eat too much chocolate, or you'll get too fat.

( 5 ) I would rather not accept his present.

( 1 ) Not having received any reply from Tom, Mary decided to write to him again.

( 2 ) He kept silent over the matter in order not to lose his job.

( 3 ) She was very upset for not having been invited to the party.

① I don't think the film is intended for children.

② We don't believe he stole money from the stop.

  ( 2 )若用“ It is / was … that …”

It was not until he told me that I had an idea about it.

  ( 3 )当 not until, not only (… but also …), not for a moment, not a single ……

① Not only has he been to London but also he worked there for a time.

② Not for a moment did he doubt the truth of your story.

  ① Don't make any noise.

② Don't you make any noise.

If you still haven't made any final decision, why not go to our teacher for some advice?

  ( 1 ) not until / not … until 才……”; not only … but also … 而且……”; not a few ( = many )意为“很多”; not a little ( = very, much )意为“很”或“非常”。例如:

① Not until he failed did he realize what mistakes he had made.

  ② After a whole day's work, I was not a little tired.

not … without … 都不为过分; not … but …没有……不……; too … not to do sth. 不会不做某事; not fail to do sth. 成功地做某事; not … rather than …没有……不……。例如:

① I cannot see the picture without thinking of my mother.

② You cannot be too careful while driving.

③ Now there isn't any dictionary but has one or two misprints.

④ Xiao Ming is too clever not to avoid such mistakes.

⑤ He doesn't fail to write to his parents every month.

⑥ In that school not any lessons are held in languages rather than English.

  not both 或 both … not 意为“并非两者都……”; not every 或 every … not 意为“并非每个都……”; not all 或 all … not 意为“并非全部都……”; not everything 或 everything … not 意为“并非每一件事都……”。例如:

① Not both of his parents are at home.

② Not everyone in our class likes pop music.

③ Not all the members of my family are TV lovers.

  3. “ not A or B ”表示“不是 A 也不是 B ”;“ not A and B ”表示“是 A 而不是 B ”;“ not A but B ”表示“不是 A 而是 B ”;“ more A than B ”表示“与其说 B 倒不如说 A ”。例如:

① He is not rich and kind. (意为: He is rich but not kind. )

② He is not rich or kind. (意为: He is neither rich nor kind. )

③ Not you but he is to blame for it.

④ He is more uneducated than stupid.

  — Do you think it will be fine tomorrow?

  — I think so.

  — I think not. ( = I don't think so. )

  四 . not 与 no 的区别:

Now I have no money on me.

Now I have not any money on me.

  ( 1 ) He is not a writer.

  ( 2 ) He is no writer.

Improving Reading Speed

  Improving Reading Speed

When we read in foreign language, very often, we don’t have enough confidence in our text comprehension, therefore we have to slow down and tend to read the same line over and over again. However, low reading speed is an obstacle to us in efficiency and having general grasp of the materials. Thus for us college students and people preparing tests, it is very urgent to accelerate reading speed. Following are some advices from my experience:

Firstly, for we discuss the methods on improving reading speed, we should know how fast or slow we read. It is important to measure our reading speed before and after our practice in fast reading so that we can know how much improvement we have achieved.

Secondly, identify the purpose of our reading and try to achieve that purpose. Improving reading speed is a gradual process and we had better choose a short-term goal that can give us an impetus more easily.

Thirdly, experiment before starting practice of accelerating reading speed, and identify certain methods which are really suitable. Here are some suggestions:

  1. Try to get main ideas from one text. When we read only for main point, we will pick up our reading speed naturally.

  2. Don’t read every word. Focus our attention only on nouns and verbs and some functional conjunctions such as but, however, in particular, in contrast, otherwise, in fact, until, etc., which can help us get main ideas, and ignore the words or parts that we do not understand.

  3. Never use a pen or a finger to point at the words while reading, but move our eyes to help reading faster, and try to broaden our eye span.

  4. Don’t let eyes stay in the same line for more than 5 seconds.

Practice these tips and practice as often as possible, and don’t forget to measure reading speed at the end to see how fast we can read. It may be not very rewarding at the beginning, but with patience and time, we shall find that we are making progress.

Government Officers

I had no idea what the government officers were like before I joined my bureau. I, however, had no positive impressions on them, because of some officers I approached when I was a salesman.

Of course, I usually contacted those who were in charge of purchasing. Those officers were/maybe still are proud, demanding and powerful. Some of them hinted me for returns and some just asked directly. I invited them for dinner sometimes, and they ordered the most expensive dishes. Some even asked for more services after dinner. Not until all the so-called services were done, did they want to release some useful information to us or sign the purchasing orders. That’s why I used to look down upon them. They were nothing but a big pile of shit to me.

And now I’m working as a government officer too, not only because I am tired of being a salesman, but I want a stable and reliable job. I don’t think this position will be my final career destination, though! It’s been three months since I joined in the bureau. I’m impressed by the government officers in my bureau, because they are far away from what I thought before. Some of them are really good and responsible people!

Our bureau is a bit different from the others, because we are in charge of all the trades and investments in the city. Local companies have to apply for invitation letters if they want their foreign customers, colleagues, friends, relatives or whoever to come to Shenyang to live or work. And we’re in charge of all the foreign companies in the city. Though we have great power in hand, we use it to get more legal foreign investments and for anything which could be helpful for employment opportunities.

Some small problems still occurred to me after I became a member of the officers. I had no such experience on dealing with them before. For example: A section director asked me to translate a long essay for him. I said yes, but my boss was not happy because he said the director had no right to ask his man to do anything without his permission. I understood, cause he is my boss. I shall not take orders from other people, though their ranks are much higher than mine! So my boss asked me to leave his translation alone and let him to explain to the director. In fact, he forgot to do it, and I was there waiting for the consequence. It came to me pretty soon. The director told the president of my bureau that my English was poor. And don’t forget I just impressed the boss in a negative way. I smiled when I heard this, bitterly. “So what?” I asked myself. It’s no big deal. Danny’s English level has been proved by many foreigners, not only from English-speaking countries. I have, at least, great confidence on my English skills.

This incident made me more mature. Working for the Chinese government is not easy. As long as you’re sophisticated enough, you will definitely stand a batter chance to be promoted. You have to be bad, mean and whatever suitable for the job. I’m outta here, sooner or later. Like my brother told me before: if you work for the government, you’re gonna die soon.

Now I understand what he meant. Oops, being a government officer is not easy; being a good and innocent one is nearly impossible. So are you ready to be a government officer?
